The US–south Korea joint military exercises and the Situation on the Korean Peninsula

In his report to the 7^th Party Congress of the Worker’s Party of Korea (WPK) the Respected Comrade Kim Jong Un, the Chairman of the Worker’s Party of Korea, said as follows:

“The United States should squarely recognize the strategic position of our Republic, now that it has joined the front rank of nuclear powers, and the trend of the times; it should scrap its anachronistic policy of hostility towards the DPRK, replace the Armistice Agreement with a peace treaty and withdraw its forces of aggression and war material from south Korea.”

At present, the frenzied and large-scale nuclear war exercise aiming for the invasion of the North, led by the world No.1 nuclear power, is being conducted on the Korean peninsula, the biggest hotspot in the world under the pretext of being a “routine” one in the “defensive” nature.

The Korean peninsula, where the status quo of the decades-long ceasefire has been continued, is becoming the site of the showdown for power, the tensest one around the globe.

No place in the world is as much dangerous as the Korean peninsula where the great number of the vast strategic armed forces including the nuclear weapons have been intensively deployed and the joint military exercises and other warmongering military maneuvers have been conducted as frequently as the days are numbered.

Even those, who are interested in the situation on the Korean peninsula to a certain degree, would not take much trouble to witness the fact that the Korean peninsula falls into the melting pot of the cycle of the aggravation of the situation in March, April and August every year.

The situation on the Korean peninsula, at the very time of March, April and August every year, could be characterized by the enforcement of the large-scale US–south Korea joint military exercises and the self-defensive countermeasures of the DPRK.

This paper will deal with the danger and provocative character of the joint military exercises conducted by the US in collusion with south Korea, and the influence of those war drills racket on the situation of the Korean peninsula.

Independence, Peaceful Reunification and Grand National Unity – the Fundamental Principles of Korean Reunification

It has been long past half a century since Korea, a homogenous nation with a 5,000 year-long history, was divided into two by foreign forces.

Even the name of the country, Korea, that was admired as “the land of morning calm” is now being addressed as “north Korea” and “south Korea” for the past 70 years.

The tearful scenes of long-awaited reunion and heartbreaking farewell of separated families from the north and the south can be seen nowhere else in the world.

National reunification has become the most burning desire for the Koreans who have lived with painful sorrow for such a long time.

It is not only the Koreans but also peace-loving people over the world who desire early reunification of Korea that will open up a new era of peace and prosperity on the peninsular and in the region.

In his New Year Address this year, His Excellency Mr. KIM JONG UN, has put forward the idea of independence in inter-Korean relations and the reunification issues in line with the nation’s desire and demand; the idea of safeguarding peace and security by eliminating the dangers of war on the Korean peninsula; and the idea of adding value to the north-south joint declarations and implementing them. These ideas are the great banner for early realization of the nation’s long-cherished desire and the world aspiration for peace.

Korean Jurists Committee Accuses U.S. of Sidestepping  Conclusion of Peace Treaty with DPRK

     Pyongyang, January 14 (KCNA) — The Korean Jurists Committee released a white paper on January 14, disclosing the U.S. criminal acts of persistently sidestepping the conclusion of a peace treaty with the DPRK, an international legal guarantee for defending peace and security in the Korean Peninsula and the rest of the world, and laying bare the U.S. sinister aim lurking behind it before the international community and the world progressives.

     A peace treaty is an international one which should be concluded in order to put a definite end to the state of war from a legal point of view and establish the relations of lasting peace, the white paper noted, and went on:

     How to approach the peace treaty is a touchstone to distinguish the peace-loving forces and trigger-happy forces.

     The Korean Armistice Agreement (AA) was adopted as an international legal document which envisaged the independent and peaceful settlement of the Korean issue free from any foreign interference and the establishment of the lasting peace-keeping mechanism in the Korean Peninsula, not a temporary halt to belligerence, thanks to the DPRK’s positive and stubborn struggle to lay a legal groundwork for setting up the relations of peace after the war.
